Our Store
McKeen Metro Glebe is a local, family owned business that strives to provide excellent customer service to the residents of the Glebe and surrounding areas. We offer a diverse range of products from gluten-free treats and organic produce to your everyday grocery and household staples.
We take great pride in sourcing our products from local suppliers and support the local farming industry whilst striving to provide the freshest and most delicious foods all year round.
Established in 1910, our family’s store has been serving the Glebe and its residents for over four generations.
McKeen Family Timeline
James McKeen has a grocery store and butcher shop built at 901 Bank St at corner of Clarey Avenue in the new suburb of the Glebe
Harold McKeen takes over the lease on the former J.H. May’s Grocery Store at 82 First Avenue at O’Conner (operating at the same time as his father’s store on Bank Street).
Harold McKeen opens McKeen IGA at 754 Bank Street. His brother Gordie was the Produce Manager, Maynard Lee was in charge of the Meat Department, and his wife Laura managed the books at home on the kitchen table
James McKeen take over partial ownership of McKeen’s IGA alongside with his brother David McKeen.
Loeb Glebe becomes the first mainstream grocery store in Ottawa to offer organic foods
Loeb Glebe begins to offer On-line shopping
Rebecca McKeen becomes Store Director of McKeen Metro Glebe
